cotext

The term "cotext" refers to the text that surrounds a passage, i.e. the words or sentences coming before and after it. (Cotext is the textual context of a text.)

Just as it is foolish to ignore the wider context of the Bible, failure to pay attention to the cotext can lead to spectacular disaster. The fact that the Bible says "There is no God" is an extreme case. (The phrase actually occurs 18 times in the NRSV but see particularly Ps 10:4; 14:1; 53:1.)
