יַד yad "hand"
though a very ordinary word, in Hebrew as in many cultures because of the functions
of the hands it carries meanings beyond the literal. Eg. of the four uses in
Amos three refer to Adonai's acts of judgment (1:8;
7:7; 9:2) though one of these is a fairly simple physical picture
(7:7); only one is merely
a human hand (5:19).
