סִיר sir(ah) 1 = "pot"; 2 = "thorn, barb". The meaning "pot" is more common for these letters, but the meaning "thorn" is also evidently present. In Am 4:2 the LXX read "pot", while most modern translators have preferred to match the word with דּוּגָה "fishing".
