קום qwm although "to rise" is the most usual sense of the qal (cf. Amos 7:9; 8:14) the verb also speaks of the result of rising: "to stand" or "to maintain oneself" (cf. Amos 7:2, 5).

The hiphil usually implies "to raise" (cf. Amos 9:11) or "to raise up" in a metaphorical sense (cf. Amos 2:11; 6:14).

Amos 5:2 uses both qal and hiphil forms: Israel will not "rise" since there is no one to "raise" her.
