נַעַרָה
na`arah means "young woman" or "girl". Essentially
its distinction from other words implies not so much age (before or after puberty)
or sexual status "virgin"; as status, "unmarried". Like its
masculine counterpart "na'ar", it often refers to a servant (Gen
24:61; Ex 2:5;
1 Sam 25:42; Pr 9:3
etc.). In Amos 2:7 the decision whether to translate "servant-girl"
or simply "girl" points up two ways of reading the line.
