בֵּית־אֵל beth-el "house of God" is the name of a major sanctuary in the Northern Kingdom, occurs 7 times in Amos (3:14; 4:4; 5:5, 6; 7:10. 13) and is the scene of the one biographical story present in the book (7:10-17).
