Jeroboam, the Judean "Man of God" and the prophet

In 1 Kgs 12 we read of Jeroboam I seeking to stabilise his new kingdom by creating in Bethel (and Dan) cult centres to rival Jerusalem. The next chapter continues the story with a Judean "man of God" preaching against the altar at Bethel (cf. 1 Kgs 13:2 and Am 3:14).

His first conflict is with the king, but as the story progresses an "old prophet who lived in Bethel" joins the battle, which therefore is now between a Judean "man of God" אִישׁ־הָאֱלֹהִים and a Bethel "prophet" נָבִיא
